The Stonewall Democrats of Dallas operates under a basic governing charter known as our By-Laws. Our By-Laws express in written form the structure and processes that we follow. Our By Laws are just 7 pages in length, and we encourage all of our
Members to familiarize themselves with them.

Stonewall Democrats of Dallas has an Executive Body consisting of four Officers: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, charged with day-to-day governance. The Officers are elected by direct vote of the General Membership yearly or in the event of a vacancy between elections, appointed by the President and then ratified by a majority vote of the Board of Directors. The term of office is for 1 year, however any Officer may be re-elected for multiple terms.

The Stonewall Democrats of Dallas also has a Managing Body, our Board of Directors,
which consists of our four Executive Officers as well as additional appointed general members of the organization. The Board of Directors Meetings are presided over by the President of Stonewall and are generally held on the 2nd Monday of each month.
The Board of Directors is charged with general management of the organization, which include: making nominations, approving large expenditures, and making recommendations and resolutions to the General Membership for ratification or rejection as outlined in our By-Laws.

The Governing Body of Stonewall Democrats is the General Membership itself in the true
Democratic Spirit.

All members in good standing (dues current) are eligible to vote on all matters which
are brought before the Membership at-large. You can contact any officer or board member

The heart and soul of the Stonewall Democrats of Dallas are the people who volunteer to oversee and coordinate specific tasks and events for the organization. The President of Stonewall is given wide latitude to create or to dissolve committees on an as-needed basis, and also nominates a Chairperson for each Committee, which unless declined by the individual nominated, is ratified by the Board of Directors.

In 2010, President Erin Moore will continue our basic Committee structure to help streamline and improve the overall efficiency of each individual task. There will be 4 parent committees, each with a Director who will serve as the
Spokesperson at our General Meetings for all of the activities listed under
that Committee and who will give one " consolidated " report to the
Membership. We hope that you will find this to be a vast improvement
rather than calling for 16 different and individual reports each month.
In 2007, we found this streamlined report structure to be beneficial and
moved our meetings along fairly rapidly.

If you have an interest in serving on a specific Committee or area of activity, please contact the appropriate Director or Chairperson. Your participation is needed and appreciated by the entire membership.
It's a great way to get more involved, make new friends, and learn more about Stonewall. Additionally, if you would like to take a leadership role in Stonewall at some point whether it's on a Committee or to be an Officer of Stonewall this is the place to get started. We are not a static organization, and we invite future leaders out there in the general membership to take an 'active' role in Stonewall especially in this exciting and critically important election year!

The Stonewall Democrats of Dallas has a wide and diverse membership.

Our current membership numbers in the hundreds. We are extremely proud that included in our membership we have numerous elected officials, on the State, County and Municipal levels, in three different areas including Administrative, Judicial, as well as Legislative positions ranging from the Dallas City Council to the Texas House of Representatives in Austin. We are considered by many to be the largest, most active, and most influential Democratic "club" in Dallas.

During 2007 and into 2008 our membership has continued to grow at a rapid pace with new members joining throughout the year. Our monthly General Membership Meetings have also reflected this growth, and today we average between 60 and 90 members in attendance on a regular basis. Your involvement and support is greatly appreciated and if you have an interest, we'd like to invite you to join one of the many serving on one of our various volunteer committees.

While the GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered) community encompasses the predominant role of our mission, we also welcome and have numerous heterosexual members who are GLBT friendly and which seek to establish a better relationship and understanding between our diverse groups in an effort to promote and advance the Democratic message.

If you have an interest in joining our organization our General Membership is just $ 35 per year, which entitles you to voting privileges at all of our membership meetings, in addition, you will receive our highly acclaimed monthly newsletter, The Stonewall Advocate, which is edited and published locally.

We also offer Sustaining Memberships for those who are able to support the organization at higher levels on a one-time or monthly basis. Sustaining Memberships are offered at the following levels of $120 or $300 per year which represents $10 or $25 per month respectively, which can be deducted from your credit/debit card on a regular monthly basis, or by one-time payment. Special thanks go out to all of our current Sustaining Members.

Click here to join or renew your Membership in Stonewall Democrats
Click on the above link and you will be taken to our Contribution Page. Please select the membership level at which you would like to join or renew. The choices are $35 for a 1 year general membership, or $120 (or $ 10/month) and $300 (or $ 25/month) for sustaining memberships.
All of our transactions are done on a Secure Server and is encrypted so your Credit and Debit Card information is safe. Look for the "https" in your browser window to know that you are on a secure page.

NEW FEATURE ! We now offer the option of either making a one time membership contribution or an automatic recurring monthly, quarterly, or yearly contribution. Many members who are or who would like to become Sustaining Members of Stonewall prefer to contribute $ 10 or $ 25 on a monthly basis.
This new convenient option makes becoming a Sustaining Member easy and automatic so that you don't have to worry about it. We will just charge the debit or credit card of your choice each month at the amount that you specify and you can become a Sustaining Member of Stonewall for as little as $10/month !

Stonewall Democrats of Dallas is an organization of politically active individuals working for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender community in the city of Dallas and the state of Texas; the purpose of Stonewall Democrats of Dallas is to:
1) Sensitize Democratic candidates and officeholders to the political needs of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender community.
2) Promote the Democratic Party's message of economic justice and social progress in the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community.
3) Encourage participation by Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender persons in the campaigns of Democratic candidates and at all levels of the Democratic Party.
4) Facilitate the election of Democratic candidates to public office by maximizing the Democratic turnout in the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community.
The Stonewall Democrats of Dallas is affliated with our statewide organization, the Texas Stonewall Democratic Caucus, and our national organization, the National Stonewall Democrats. All members of Stonewall Democrats of Dallas are also members of the Texas Stonewall Democratic Caucus as well as the National Stonewall Democrats. The "Stonewall Democrats" organization is the only "officially recognized " GLBT organization of the Texas Democratic Party and our statewide President and Vice President also serve on the State Democratic Executive Committee, which is the governing body of the Texas Democratic Party. While we are predominantly a GLBT organization, we have numerous heterosexual members and allies as well, and we are very "straight" friendly.
You do not have to be a member of the GLBT community however to be a member of Stonewall Democrats. We enthusiastically embrace and appreciate all of our ' straight ' members and allies.

Stonewall Democrats of Dallas was conceived in October 1996 by local activists Christy Kinsler and Gary Fitzsimmons. They gathered a small group of receptive people including Michael Milliken, Bill Fry, Sunny Erwin, and Al Daniels who met in Michael Milliken's living room to form the organization in response to a high-profile donation from the Log Cabin Republicans in a local race. For the first few years, Stonewall Democrats was financed primarily from the incredible generosity of Michael Milliken to whom we owe tremendous gratitude for believing in the organization. So we dedicate this page in honor of Founder Michael Milliken without whom we would not have been able to become the successful and dynamic organization we are today. The Stonewall Democrats of Dallas has flourished and grown tremendously in our first decade... from a small handful of people to our current membership which numbers in the hundreds of members, including several locally elected officials. We are the single largest Democratic "club" in Dallas County and the third largest chapter of Stonewall Democrats in the United States. Please feel free to contact us or stop by and attend one of our monthly meetings for more information.
